Brazilian chicken processors had expected lower
volumes due to reduced demand in Europe an Asia as a result of avian influenza
fears.
However, Brazilian chicken export revenue dropped 8.7 % to $3.2 billion
in 2006, compared with the year earlier, announced the Brazilian poultry
federation.
Whole chicken exports totalled $937 million, down 13.83%, and chicken cuts
were about $1.97 billion, down 11. 23 %. In contrast, processed chicken meat
exports were up 52%, reaching approximately $281 million.
Volumes were down just less than 5% on the whole, but processed chicken
meat was up 51.5%.
