Winter poultry consumption up in India
The festive season and a steady rise in winter consumption may lead to a hike in poultry prices.
The Christmas and New Year festivities, increased the demand for poultry products, and are now followed the festival Pongal this month, which is expected to support the rising consumption of chicken.
The National Egg Co-ordination Committee (NECC), Namakkal, has hiked egg prices 10%. Palladam-based Broiler Co-ordination Committee (BCC) has chosen to fix the wholesale price 6% higher, considering the sustained demand.
“During the last winter, we exported between 2 – 2.5 million eggs per day to the North and this year also we plan to export in similar numbers,†said Dr. P Selvaraj, chairman, NECC. Trade sources in Namakkal anticipated the current price trend to last through January.
