Indian broilers not affected by truck strike

Broiler farms in Coimbatore district dependent largely on the Kerala market, have not been affected much by a lorry strike that enters its fourth day.

"Our business is not affected much as there was no problem in the movement of light motor vehicles, mostly used by us, in Kerala. The broiler movement by and large is as usual," said R. Lakshmanan, Chairman of the Broiler Coordination Committee.
However, about 10 to 15% of broiler loads that are being transported by lorries could be affected. Poultry farmers in other nearby areas said that they had incurred losses as a result of the strike and were selling their birds locally.
Other commodities such as milk and vegetables have been more greatly affected, as vehicles remain idle, parked at Kangeyam, Erode and Sathyamangalam.
The truck operators in Kerala are striking in protest to the installation of speed checkers.
