Czech broiler seminars supported by leading hatchery firms

More than 130 broiler farmers and poultry specialists took part in seminars at Litomysl and Havlickuv Brod, organised by Cobb Germany and the two biggest Czech hatcheries Mach and Xavergen.

James Truscott, director of Cobb Germany, spoke about the role of the poultry industry in providing for the growing global population, focusing on the increasing emphasis on feed conversion that makes chicken by far the most competitive meat in the world.

He referred to the growing demand for Cobb broilers in the Czech Republic and the ‘strong working relationship enjoyed by Cobb Germany with Mach and Xavergen over many years’, acknowledging the help from Jiri Mach and Pavel Visek in organising the events.

Hatchery expert Dr Ron Meijerhof, of Poultry Performance Plus, spoke about the importance of accurate temperatures during transport and brooding to provide day-old chicks with the best possible start.

Saeid Najati, broiler and breeder specialist, spoke about his experiences with Cobb broilers in Germany covering both light programs and nutritional strategies — key factors in successful broiler growing.

Lubor Skalka, technical manager in the Czech and Slovak Republics, stressed the importance of ventilation and heating in achieving good environmental conditions.
