Who let the bugs out?

Following the European ban on the use of antibiotics as growth promoters, and an increasing pressure against it in other corners of the world, much attention in the industry is now turning to possible alternatives, including probiotics, prebiotics, phytochemicals and the like. At a recent event for the poultry sector in Brazil, Kiyoshi Maruta, researcher and consultant at Calpis Co., addressed one of these options for commercial poultry production: probiotics.
