600,000 poultry die in Miratorg farm blaze

The fire that was reported on the farm of Russia’s largest meat producer, Miratorg, destroyed 600,000 heads of poultry, according to information released by the company.

“The poultry farm was insured, and currently we are conducting an internal investigation to reveal the causes of fire and calculate the damage,” the press-service of the Bryansk division of agricultural holding Miratorg reported.

The farm which was damaged by fire had been running in test mode, therefore the incident will not affect the current operations and production indicators of the Bryansk poultry cluster.

The farm started working in the beginning of December of 2014 after investment in its construction amounted to RUB 1.2 billion (US$ 18 million). It was the sixth poultry complex commissioned within the large-scale project for the creating of a poultry production and processing complex in Bryank Oblast.

The final and seventh poultry farm in the region should be opened in the spring of 2015. The total investment in the poultry project will eventually amount to RUB 25 billion (US$ 383 million).

The workers of the poultry farm say that most like the reason of the fire was the short circuit of electric wiring.
