Chicken farm will go ahead despite protest

In spite of concerns raised by residents and parish councillors, plans for a free-range chicken farm in Mentmore have been approved.

The development control committee of Aylesbury Vale District Council have approved plans for the proposed site, set over 12.3 hectares in Mentmore, Buckinghamshire, England, which will have the capacity to house 12,000 free-range birds.
Councillors were in support of the plans, as the chicken farm will encourage agricultural activity. However, Mentmore Parish Council and residents have raised concerns regarding flooding, increased traffic and potential odours that might result from the livestock.
In defending the site, Bucks County Highways said that recent drainage work carried out to the area had been successful in reducing the water logging. In terms of traffic, suggested diversions to the site were not agreed upon, but according to a planning consultant for the application, Ian Pick, there would only be an average increase of 2.4 lorries per week.
