Oman: Live poultry slaughter banned at private centres

The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources has banned the slaughtering of poultry in various areas of the Sultanate.

Now, after the ban has been put in place, only the selling of live and chilled poultry can occur. The slaughter of poultry may only be carried out at the ministry's licensed slaughter house to meet hygienic conditions.
This decision follows the government's desire to improve services to the public, maintain public trust, and to ensure the protection of consumer's health and safety, as well as to prevent an outbreak of an epidemic disease, such as the bird flu.
Owners of licensed poultry farms are also permitted to provide consumers with poultry slaughter services at the farm itself after establishing a slaughter house and obtaining relevant permits for the same.
