US: Normal levels of testing on Canadian poultry resumed

In a letter to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Dr William James, acting administrator of FSIS’s Office of International Affairs, stated that the FSIS will resume normal levels of product examinations on Canadian meat and poultry products, as well as pasteurised egg products. Additionally, the FSIS will resume normal levels of testing for Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella in ready-to-eat products.

On 9 November, the FSIS implemented increased testing and holding of Canadian product following concern stemming from “unsafe practices”.

“Additionally,” stated Dr James, “the increased testing has not revealed any problems with Canadian products exported to the United States.”
