Five Pilgrim's Pride plants raided by ICE
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have
raided five Pilgrim's Pride plants. These raids are a part of investigation into
workers using fake documentation.
Meatingplace has reported that plants in Batesville, Ark.; Mount Pleasant,
Texas; Live Oak, Fla.; Moorefield, W. Va.; and Chattanooga, Tenn., were involved
in the action.
Approx. 400 hourly workers at the processing facilities across five states
were taken into custody this week for alleged immigration-related crimes,
including aggravated identity theft.
Meatingplace has reported that the nation's largest chicken processor said
in a statement that it alerted ICE officials to the identity theft situation at
the Batesville facility. Pilgrim's Pride noted that the company is not facing
any civil or criminal charges and is fully cooperating with the ICE
