UK's poultry market rising in value

According to Research and Markets' “Poultry Market Report 2008", there is continued rapid growth of the poultry market in the UK.

The report states that there has been 16% growth in value terms between 2003 and 2007. Increased sales of added-value and premium products have played a major role in this growth, while poultry's healthy image and its versatility have helped to boost volume sales. Additionally, retailers are responding to welfare concerns to create a healthier image for the poultry market and a more positive attitude toward this protein.
It is reported that chicken continues to dominate the market, accounting for 82.7% of retail sales by value in 2007. Sales of other poultry are also rising. Turkey is increasingly bought throughout the year, also given a 'helping hand' due to its versatility and healthy image. Duck meat sales are also rising. Additionally, the part of the sector that includes geese and pheasants is also growing in popularity.
