UK and German agricultural ministers discuss reform

UK and German Agricultural Ministers met to discuss a number of areas of common interest, including reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post-2013.

The meeting of the ministers took place this week in London.

Caroline Spelman, UK Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Ilse Aigner, German Federal Minister of Agriculture discussed the challenges and opportunities faced by the sector.

More market orientated CAP
Mrs Spelman said: “Our goal must be about continuing the move towards a more market-orientated CAP.  We need to put our farmers in a stronger position to compete on the international stage, but in a way that also protects and enhances the natural environment.

“We’ve agreed to work closely with our partners in Europe to make sure that any reform of the CAP delivers these goals.”
