Australian chicken farm to replace processing plant

Hazeldene’s Chicken Farm, the largest employer in the city of Bendigo, Victoria, Australia, has announced plans for a new $10 million processing plant.

The city of Greater Bendigo has approved plans for the plant at the company’s Lockwood site. Hazeldene’s hopes construction will begin later this year.

The development will replace the ageing existing facilities. Director of corporate affairs, Vicki Gaudion, says it indicates the company’s commitment to the region. “Jobs may increase, that will purely depend on the number of birds going through as to the jobs, we are envisaging that the bird numbers will be going up, so that does look on jobs, but to put a figure on it at the moment is a bit too hard,” she said.
