Jordan suspends imports of Israeli poultry

The Jordanian government has suspended imports of poultry from Israel due to an outbreak of Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) in the country, senior officials have stated.

Minister of Agriculture Mazen Khasawneh, said the move came in response to reports released by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in August claiming that chickens tested positive for NDV at an Israeli kibbutz.

"The government stops importing meat from countries reported by the OIE to have animal diseases for a minimum three-month period," Khasawneh said.

Jordan is currently free of the Newcastle Disease Virus.
