Meyn introduces drawer system for live bird handling

Meyn says it has introduced a live bird handling systems that is easy to use and maintain, is fully automated and efficient, with a limited investment level and excellent hygiene.

With Meyn's new drawer system for live bird handling, birds are transported in large, open top crates that are placed in rigid module frames during transport. The module frames are handled by fork lifts, both in the growing house as well as in the processing plant. This way, the manual handling of crates is completely avoided, which benefits both working conditions as well as animal welfare.

Throughout the system, module frames and crates are handled in a smooth and careful way, resulting in lower stress levels and improved end product quality.

The handling system in the plant is optimised to cater for capacities up to 12,000 birds per hour. Optionally, the system can be equipped with in-line weighing of loaded and empty crates.

Furthermore, an extended washing system for both crates and modules is part of the line. The modules as well as the handling equipment in the processing plant are of straightforward and robust construction. They are designed for many years of trouble free operation with a minimum of downtime and maintenance.
