Kemin publishes book on poultry intestinal health

Managing the gut ecosystem has been recognised as one of the most important strategies for maintaining animal health. A balanced gastrointestinal tract is crucial in raising animals to meet their full genetic potential.

“As the industry evolves we feel it is our responsibility to continue sharing the cutting edge science and solutions for intestinal and overall animal nutrition and health problems. Therefore, we have compiled a set of publications written by highly regarded members of academia and specialists active in the veterinary field,” says Dr. Stefaan Van Dyck, Kemin vice president of research and development.



“These papers aim to give an understanding of gut health issues and challenges experienced in the management of poultry health. Furthermore, the authors have shared their insights on gut health optimisation in the future.”



Unfortunately, the poultry species is confronted by several bacterial diseases that can disturb gut health. Bacterial enteritis is a common challenge, caused by the proliferation of Clostridium perfringens, which disrupts the gut and severely impacts bird health and performance and ultimately overall profitability.



Nutritionists and veterinarians are working together to manage poultry gut health. Over the last several years, the tools used to manage gut health issues have improved. In the past, producers relied on antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) to solve these gastrointestinal problems. However, over the last several years, concerns related to antibiotic resistance and the responsible use of antibiotics has increased. During this time, regulations on gut health management have become more stringent in many parts of the world, urging for more natural solutions.



The papers in the book provide information on intestinal health management, including how Kemin can be your partner in gut health optimisation. The book is being released during the XVIIIth Congress of the World Veterinary Poultry Association in Nantes, France.
