Brazil’s poultry exports see huge growth

21-06-2007 | |

Brazil exported about US$400 million in chicken meat during May 2007, which is an increase of 84.9% over May 2006, according to the Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef).

These revenues came from exports amounting to 274,000 tonnes of poultry meat (39.4% more than in May 2006). Among the exports, whole chickens contribute approximately $120.5 million to revenues (125.5% more than in the same period last year).
According to the organisation’s acting executive president Christian Lohbauer, the large percentage growth is due to the decrease in sales in May 2006 due to avian flu in the European and Asian markets.
From May to June this year, Brazil exported 1.28 million tonnes of chicken (22.6% more than in the period from the same period in 2006). Revenues were $1.75 billion (41.3% more in the same comparison).
