EU to lift ban on China’s poultry

The European Commission (EC) will soon ask all European Union (EU) member states to lift the ban on the imports of China’s processed poultry.

This decision was made between trade talks between Chinese commerce minister Bo Xilai and EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson.
The EU has assured China of the proposal, vowing to resume normal trade between the two in the near future; however, no final date has been set for the trade resumption.
The EU imposed the ban on the imports of China’s processed poultry following the outbreak of bird flu in the Chinese mainland in 2004.
The EC must conduct meetings with representatives from all EU member states for their approval of the proposal.
