Three UK poultry businesses have been acquired by
poultry processor 2 Sisters Food Group, as seen in another bout of consolidation
in the UK poultry industry.
Fofar-based primary processor Joseph Mitchell has been added to two
existing primary processing operations in Scunthorpe and Flixton by 2 Sisters
Food Group.
The company has also expanded its added value poultry division with
purchase of Challenger Foods in Sunderland and Tulip's Morecambe facility.
These two businesses already cook and roast poultry for the major retailer
and food service markets.
Chief executive of 2 Sisters Food Group, Ranjit Singh, highlighted that the
expanded division would have a combined turnover of £100 million (US$199
million).
“These acquisitions fit with our strategy to broaden the poultry offering
and geographic reach of our Group. In addition, it will allow us to provide
consumers with more locally sourced products, thus helping us to reduce our
carbon footprint,†said Singh, who believes that this will enable the Group to
better serve its customers and offer entry into niche markets, including Halal
meat, wholesale, catering and independent butchers.
