Bulgaria faces Newcastle disease

Approximately 260 domestic birds have been culled by veterinary officials following a suspected outbreak of Newcastle Disease in several farms in the south of Bulgaria.

According to the officials, the highly contagious disease killed over 50 fowl in the last week in farms near the town of Velingrad. The Ministry of Agriculture has assured that tests are being conducted to confirm the reason for the deaths.
More than 500 domestic birds, including hens, turkeys, pigeons and ducks, are bred in the village. Disinfection of the contaminated and adjacent yards has been ordered to stop the disease spreading.
