Invercargill Poultry Plant closure supported
The New Zealand Poultry Industry
Association supports the decision of the New Zealand Food Safety Authority
(NZFSA) to close an Invercargill Poultry Plant. This will be reviewed only when
the required hygiene standards have been met.
NZFSA closed the plant earlier
this week because it fell short of the standards it requires for food processing
“The Association regrets that one
of the country's smaller and older plants has not met the food safety processing
standards required by NZFSA and expected by the industry,†says executive
director Michael Brooksy.
“The Association supports the
NZFSA's actions because consumer protection and high standards of hygiene and
processing practice are an absolute priority.â€
The company will be working with
NZFSA to ensure the plant meets the high standards required to allow them to
resume production as soon as possible.
