As reported by the Federal Statistical Office
(Destatis), 3.7 million tonnes of meat were commercially produced in Germany in
the first half of 2008, which was 4.0% more than in the same period of the
previous year.
Poultry meat production on the increase
With a total of
590,800 tonnes, the production of poultry meat was 8.1% larger than in the first
half of 2007.
The production of beef (excluding veal) was 3.1%
higher than in the same period of the previous year, reaching 563,600 tonnes.
Also, 2.5 million tonnes of pork (+3.4%), 19,600 tonnes of veal (-1.0%),
10,500 tonnes of sheep meat and 1,300 tonnes of goat and horse meat were
produced.
