Honduras: Outbreak of Newcastle Disease

06-11-2009 | |

Ag authorities of Honduras have reported an outbreak of Newcastle disease in Cucuyagua, Copan. From 11,000 birds, 10,200 were affected and 6,500 died.

Precautionary quarantine measures as well as slaughter and disinfection in the farm have been implemented and samples have been taken for viral isolation.

An investigation is also being carried out in the area to identify the source of the Newcastle disease.

Two vaccines were applied in 15000 backyard poultry around the outbreak: an oily dead virus vaccine and a live virus ocular vaccine.
