VIV Asia: role for livestock sector to restore economy

VIV Asia, the Asia-Pacific’s greatest livestock product exhibition, was opened on Wednesday in the Thai capital of Bangkok, World Poultry editor Ad Bal reports.

During the opening ceremony, attention was paid to the Asian livestock industry and the world economic crisis, as the event focuses on the confidence to establish Thailand as the Asia-Pacific livestock hub.

Ton Otten, managing director for VNU Exhibitions Europe said that the agricultural industry, especially the livestock sector, stands out, despite the deterioration of worldwide economic circumstances. For the livestock sector he even saw an important role to restore the economy in a stable condition.

New Innovations
Otten added that the Bangkok show is a great opportunity for traders in the Asia-Pacific region to rush into learning new innovations and changing technologies for developing and enhancing their productivity, reducing their costs whilst maintaining production quality.

He concluded by saying that VIV Asia 2009 can respond and meet the needs of livestock concerning personnel in the Asia-Pacific region, including sellers and buyers all over the world. Otten added that the VIV show will be the key centre to determine continuous trends in the Asian-Pacific livestock industry.

This year’s edition of VIV Asia covers 14,250 m2, with 570 exhibitors from 39 countries. The show will last until March 13.

Symposiums
Along with the show, several side symposiums were held. Over 200 delegates attended a seminar by French feed additives manufacturer Adisseo on the benefits of its enzymes product range, around the theme ‘From innovation to practice’. At the same time, Dutch animal nutrition company Nutreco held a forum around the theme ‘People Planet Profit’.
