Cargill donates turkeys to foodbank

Cargill, through a partnership between The Poultry Federation and the Foodbank has donated approximately 700 Honeysuckle White turkeys to the Arkansas Foodbank Network.

This special partnership with the Arkansas Foodbank Network was established three years ago to distribute turkeys to its member food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, and other programs that serve hungry Arkansans.Since 1987, The Poultry Federation office in Little Rock has donated nearly 280,000 pounds of turkeys to numerous central Arkansas charitable organisations to assist in their delivery of Thanksgiving meals to the hungry.

“Once again, Cargill’s generous gift of turkeys this holiday season has such a positive impact within the Central Arkansas community,” stated Marvin Childers, President of The Poultry Federation. “We are pleased to help provide much-needed protein to our hungry neighbors, especially with a product we proudly produce. By partnering with the Arkansas Foodbank Network, who in turn partners with agencies that feed the hungry every day, we are able to use their existing infrastructure for distribution to hungry Arkansans.”

According to Arkansas Foodbank Network Executive Director Phyllis Haynes, “We are so grateful for the partnership with The Poultry Federation. “As you know, the number of people needing help has grown since the economy faltered, and childhood hunger is a serious and growing problem in Arkansas. The Federation’s generous gift of turkeys will help our member food pantries, soup kitchens, and other programs that serve our state’s hungry this holiday season.”
