OIE: 13 cases of Newcastle Disease in Israel

21-12-2011 | |

The OIE has listed 13 cases of Newcastle Disease in Israel in its recent follow-up report.

In total over 350,000 birds have been destroyed with twice as many being considered susceptible to the disease.

The first outbreak was reported in the Hazafon region on a broiler farm in late November.  The outbreak then spread throughout the region and into Hamerkaz affecting broilers, layers and turkeys.

The cases have all been resolved through culling of the infected flocks, but zoning and movement control remains in place in the affected areas. An epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
