Danish poultry processor closes part of plant

20-04-2011 | |

Denmark’s largest poultry producer, Rose Poultry, is to close part of its Padborg plant resulting in a loss of 80 jobs.

CEO, Olli Antniemi, stated that the plant has had increasing difficulty in recent years sourcing chickens as many of producers are ceasing production or moving production abroad. “We very much regret this situation here. But there are simply not enough chickens in the market to sustain all our three slaughterhouses,” said Antniemi in a statement.

The company used to slaughter 75 million chickens annually, but recent figures reveal this  is now down to 63 million. Packing at the Padborg plant is not affected by the closure, and the company expects to increase capacity at its plants in Vinderup and Skovsgård.
