Chinese farms suffering from extreme weather

Livestock and arable farms in and around the Chinese municipality Chongqing and Sichuan province have been suffering from extreme bad weather conditions.

Many farms suffered from water abundance, as torrentious rains continued and rivers flooded last week. In two areas alone already 2,694 hectares of farmland and thousands of livestock have known to have been affected, news agency Xinhua reports.

Local authorities stated that the area in south western China has been hit by ongoing downpours of rain, which have been going on for about a week. In the worst hit area of Chongqing, about 200 mm of rain fell.

At least ten people were killed in these areas, some report more casualties. In addition, tens of thousands of people had to be evacuated.

Apart from Chongqing municipality and Sichuan province, Shaanxi, Henan, Shanxi and Hebei provinces also suffer from rain.
