Minister announces flexibility in French poultry sector

Tuesday morning inaugurating the International Exhibition on Animals (Space) in Rennes, Stephane Le Foll announced administrative flexibility in the poultry industry.

At its inaugural visit to the Space Rennes on Tuesday morning, the Minister of Agriculture, Stéphane Le Foll announced a tax reduction for agricultural biogas plants. The government has proposed that digesters are exempt from tax on developed land for five years.

The government would like to encourage farmers to build plants on their farms and has launched a plan "biogas energy independence nitrogen." The goal is to have 1,000 biogas farm in 2020, against less than 100 end 2012 using biogas from manure to produce gas and heat. Meeting with the Minister for coffee, Xavier Beulin, president of the FNSEA suggested extending the "fuel" of the digester with other organic materials as manure, as, for example, sprouted wheat.

Moreover, Stéphane Le Foll announced administrative flexibility for the poultry sector, relaxations of the so called ICPE procedure for environmental protection already in place for pig farms. In other words, the farmer no longer has to wait before starting or extending a poultry operation. Administrative control will follow afterwards.
