In this edition of World Poultry, we focus on nutrition and health. There is an interview with Plukon Food Groups CEO Peter Poortinga. He is focusing on growth. We take a look at in-feed antibiotics in Russia and supporting egg quality through feed.

In early September the leading poultry processor in the Netherlands announced to have concluded an agreement in principle with the Wyrebski owned family business, on building a new slaughterhouse in Poland. It is yet another growth spurt of Plukon, which tripled in size over the past decade, among other things thanks to acquisitions of the Pingo companies (2005), Flandrex (2008) and the German Stolle (late 2011).

Moving further to the East we delve into the matter of in-feed antibiotics usage in Russian poultry. Recently Russian watchdog Rospotrebnadzor instituted an administrative proceeding against Canskaya Poultry Farm in Krasnoyarsk Krai, following the identification of metronidazole residues in several egg shipments that the farm supplied to the regional market. The industry still relies on in-feed antibiotics.
