Ukraine aims high with poultry supplies

Ukrainian poultry is highly competitive and aims to expand its sales markets to over 50 countries by 2017, Alexander Bakumenko head of the association Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine recently announced.

The increased level of chicken production in Ukraine is growing from year to year – this year it is about 150,000 tons, an increase of 15% compared to 2012, Bakumenko noted. He recalled that Ukraine is the ninth largest producer of poultry in the world, and this year it will also enter the list of world’s top ten exporters of broiler meat. Now Ukraine exports chicken to nearly 30 countries, including the CIS countries, Iran, Jordan, Syria, Libya and Saudi Arabia.

“I forecast that in 2017 we will already have not 30, but 50 countries where we will be exporting our production,” he said.

“Recently we supplied 20 tonnes of poultry to the Netherlands as we began exporting poultry to the EU. With the conclusion of the Free Trade Zone Agreement with the EU, Ukrainian manufacturers will be able to export to Europe 40,000 tonnes of poultry per year at a zero rate of custom duties.”

“We have a lot of competitive advantages and are not afraid of competition in Europe”, added the chairman of the Union of Poultry Farmers.
