Brazil’s total chicken meat exports from January to November 2013 totalled 3.567 million tonnes. A slight drop of 0.3% over the same period last year. However, revenue is up 5.2% (US$7.349 billion), according to a report by the Brazilian Poultry Union (Ubabef)

Taking only November figures, shipments of poultry meat reached 347.7 tonnes this year, a 11.4% rise compared to November 2012. Monthly income also increased by 3.9% compared to the previous year, with US$678.7 million in November 2013.

“This result was influenced by the traditional increase in shipments in the second half, as well as the difficulties faced by Brazilian exports two months ago, when product shipments were postponed due to weather problems affecting Brazilian ports, which hampered the export process”, emphasised the Ubabef President, Francisco Turra.

According to Turra, in this scenario, Ubabef predicts exports of chicken meat in 2013 to achieve a result equivalent to the total volume exported in 2012, totalling 3.9 million tonnes. Revenues is expected to grow 4% to US$8 billion.

Poultry meat production should reach a result of around 12.3 million tonnes, a drop of about 3% on 2012’s production.

For 2014, Ubabef estimates that the total volume of Brazilian production will increase by 4% on 2013 figures. With regard to exports a growth of between 2% and 2.5% on volume shipped in 2013 is predicted.
