Ukraine and EU agree on poultry export quotas

Ukraine will be able to export more poultry to the European Union (EU) than the country’s experts earlier estimated, according to the report of the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine.

The officials of the EU and Ukrainian authorities agreed export quotas for 2014 to the amount of 16,000 tonnes of chilled and 20,000 tonnes of frozen poultry. Previously experts estimated that Ukraine will be granted with the right to supply only about 20,000 tonnes of poultry meat in total.

“In May, the first deliveries should go to Netherlands,” a representative of the country’s poultry producers stated.

The chairman of the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine, Alexander Bakumenko, estimates that due to the rise of exports until November, poultry farmers can earn an additional €5.6 million. “Theoretically, in future we can sell up to 170,000 tonnes per year,” he added.

From April 23 onwards, the decision of the European Parliament came into force, which unilaterally nullifies the tariff rates for Ukraine goods. The decision is valid until November 1. According to European Commission, Ukraine will be able to save €500 mln on fees, including €400 mln in the agriculture sector.
