Possible shortage of poultry products in Ghana

The Ghana Poultry Farmers Association has warned of a possible shortage of poultry products in Ghana if the government does not provide a substantial financial support package for the sector, reports GhanaWeb.

The poultry farmers in Ghana lack the capacity to meet domestic demand following the government’s temporary ban on poultry products from Nigeria and the United States of America, after the discovery of arsenic in poultry products coming from those countries.

Ghana also placed a temporary ban on poultry products from Nigeria to stop the spread of bird flu into the country. A financial injection by the government is needed to increase local production of poultry products, according to the Ghana Poultry Farmers Association.
