The largest domestic producer of poultry meat in Ukraine, MHP, has exported 12,000-13,000 tonnes of chicken meat to the European Union (EU) since the beginning of 2015.

According to the CFO of MHP, Victoria Kapelyushnaya, the European market is very attractive for companies that can supply it with chilled poultry meat.

EU: World’s largest consumer of chicken

The company intends to deliver 170,000 -180,000 tonnes of poultry meat in 2015 to foreign markets, including 22,000-23,000 tonnes to the EU, which is the largest consumer of chicken in the world.

However it is expected that the company may face some challenges with poultry exports due to the recent decision of Kazakhstan authorities to suspend the sale of poultry of MHP due to  salmonella being identified in poultry meat.

Kapelyushnaya noted that the suspension of the import of MHP products in Kazakhstan shall not be a big loss for the company, since the country only accounts for 5% of total the exports of company’s chicken meat.
