Central Asia’s poultry farming at a crossroads

Poultry production in the Asian splinter states of the former Soviet Union is on the rise. They see the inflow of investments and rising interest of government authorities. Following Russia’s lead, most of these countries aim to push cheap imports out of the domestic market with protectionist measures. Domestic investors are being persuaded to invest money in an expansion of local production.

All countries in Central Asia share common issues and challenges when it comes to politics, economics and trade. That said, the poultry industry differs per country in terms of size and focus. Development and investment is being pushed by the authorities, but the unstable political and economic situations in the former Soviet states mean the prospects of each particular development project in the region remain rather unclear.
