Background

Relevance of rural poultry production in developing countries with special reference to Africa

//13 Dec 2011
Poultry plays an important role in the livelihood of rural communities in developing countries. Rural poultry (RP) accounts for about 80% of the world’s poultry stocks in many developing countries.

Thus, RP production is a valuable asset to the local human population despite its relatively low productive performance of 40 to 60 eggs per year and 1.5 to 1.7 kg body weight at maturity. RP contributes significantly to rural livelihood and overall population well-being by providing cash income, satisfying religious and socio-cultural needs, utilising spare family time and satisfying the family’s nutritional needs.

Efforts are therefore needed from all stake-holders for active participation in RP, geared towards strengthening and improving the development of RP production which had continuously proved to be an effective tool in fighting poverty, providing food security and improving rural livelihood.

we want to know that the method of growing broiler birds in AFRICA.Whether it is done by integrators i.e.by supplying chicks/feed, etc and giving rearing charges to farmers on contract basis. In India the rearing charges given by the integrators is very low.

If rural poultry production is geared as an effective tool in fighting poverty, providing food security and improving rural livelihood, is it not necessary to pay attention in improving its relatively low productive performance of 40 to 60 eggs per year.

In West Java Indonesia,partnership between farmers and poultry shop as well as farmers and poultry industry is very common. There are basically two different systems, farmers with risk and farmers with no risk. In both systems, all inputs supplied by industry also the marketing, while return to farmers based on its performance. In the second instance, farmers receive certain amount of money for every bird they raise and poultry shop take all the risks beside responsible for marketing. For every 2.000 birds sold, farmer will receive USD 200 per cycle (35 days). Nucleus and industry provide technical services to each farmer on day today poultry management. Both above systems are really appreciated by small scale poultry farmers in rural areas in Indonesia.

poultry business is one major supplier of meat in here in the Philippines. We are using ATOVI Technology that enhances the performance and immune system of the livestock. We barely encounter diseases in poultry business due to the high micropotential energy that charges the cells mitochondria (cell power house. Making the normal cells function effeciently whie the deteriorating and sickly cells are revitalized, rejuvenated and restored ultimately to be effecient too. When the body cells are efficient it automatically regenerate and increase the immune system and antibodies. It also induces natural detoxification or expulsion of chemical compounds or xenobiotics such as synthetic drugs, natural poison, antibiotics and medication. So the final product is free from antibiotics and medication residues. It also enhances the metabolism, the result a dramatic decrease of food intake and the proof to that is the almost total absence of undigested protein in the fecal waste and very low ammonia that causes foul odor. Because all nutrients; protein, fats,carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals are readily absorb, and utililize properly and effeciently. It converted into meat does growth rate is faster than the usual feeding. The fecal waste become non-pathogenic and immediately anorganic fertilizer, so decomposition is not needed. So ATOVI is really helpful in the poultry business, it ensures safe and healthy food. The result of meat is low in cholesterol, lean meat and less fat with no chemical residues. we called it "halal food".

Rural poultry does not thrive on supplements alone. It should have the right genetics and the right sustenance to support it. If a modern bred poultry produces 40-60 eggs a year where it suppose to produce 240-360 eggs. There is something wrong with the program.
