Also known as Chlorine toxicity

Quaternary ammonium occurs world wide in poultry of all ages. It is caused by common water sanitizers.

Causes of Quaternary ammonium

Sanitizers are commonly used to remove bacteria, fungi or algae from water lines. Common water sanitizers are the cause of this disease. All species of bird of all ages are susceptible to this acute disease.
 
Mode of transmission
Water sanitizer levels are too high.

Effects of Quaternary ammonium

Birds not to drink, reduced growth, persistent swallowing, continual spitting, facial swelling and ocular or nasal discharge can be seen.
 
Post mortem lesions
Ulcers on tongue from epithelial irritation are evident. A pseudomembrane on the mucosa of the mouth, pharynx esophagus, crop, and proventriculus / gizzard or can be seen.

Diagnosis of Quaternary ammonium

Water analysis is needed of the sanitizers. It Simulates T-2 toxin, Law pox, vitamin A deficiency and trichomoniasis.

Treatment & Control of Quaternary ammonium

Prevention
Use lower level of the chemicals in the water.
 
Treatment
Fresh water will reverse the disease.
