Five Pilgrim's Pride plants raided by ICE

// 17 Apr 2008

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have raided five Pilgrim's Pride plants. These raids are a part of investigation into workers using fake documentation.

Meatingplace has reported that plants in Batesville, Ark.; Mount Pleasant, Texas; Live Oak, Fla.; Moorefield, W. Va.; and Chattanooga, Tenn., were involved in the action.
Approx. 400 hourly workers at the processing facilities across five states were taken into custody this week for alleged immigration-related crimes, including aggravated identity theft.
Meatingplace has reported that the nation's largest chicken processor said in a statement that it alerted ICE officials to the identity theft situation at the Batesville facility. Pilgrim's Pride noted that the company is not facing any civil or criminal charges and is fully cooperating with the ICE investigation.
These raids were apparently part of a larger, long-term investigation of Pilgrim's Pride.
