This years IPE attracted over 20,000 visitors, mainly coming from the USA. However, traditionally also many attendees come from Latin America.

The show opens daily at 10 AM. At that moment the crowds are coming in.

Alternative egg production systems are not just developed for the EU. Also in North America there seems to be a growing demand for such systems, like the Avech enriched colony cage system of Big Dutchman. In the state of California, all traditional cages will be banned from 2015.

Not a very common picture is the 8-tier TBK traditional layer cage of Texha from Ukraine. These cages don’t meet the upcoming 2012 EU standards and for this reason are used only outside the EU. However, Texha is also offering the TBNE enriched colony cage which is approved for EU use.

LED lighting systems are gaining ground in poultry production. Various suppliers are now offering LED systems for both broiler houses as well as for cage systems, such as AgriShift.

Plasson introduces Water On Demand (WOD), allowing easy control and manage pressure in all drinker lines from one central place. Pressure regulators in existing systems can easily be retrofitted, enabling WOD to be installed.

The Sanovo technology group is introducing the Staalkat OptiGrader 600 washdown and grader that is capable of loading, washing, grading and packing up to 600 cases or 216,000 eggs per hour. It is their first washdown system including gentle egg handling and software that can increase grade A eggs.

Prior to the show, the Scientific Forum took place. This is a platform for scientists and researchers from universities and companies, to share their knowledge on recent findings. These will be the basis for future developments in the poultry business.

The HatchBrood brooding system of HatchTech was introduced in Europe last year. Now, the Netherlands based company also introduces the system in the Americas and displayed a full size and working unit at IPE. HatchBrood provides optimum conditions for chicks during the first three days of life.

Over 900 exhibitors were on display at this years IPE, which was about 70 more than last year. To a large extent, this was thanks to the Showco group of companies. Together these have chosen the international tradeshows on which they wish to be present. Once every two years, IPE is one of those shows.

Alltech believes the future of agriculture lies in sustainability, and in developing new and innovative ways to improve animal health and performance that are also beneficial to the consumer and the environment. A display at their stand including all technology needed was showing this approach.

With the Jamesway Self Stacking Tray (SST) egg transport system, it is possible to double the amount of eggs that will fit into any practical transport vehicle. According to Jamesway this also increases protection against egg breakage and contamination with the resilient polypropylene material that is used.

This year, Hy-Line is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Founded by Henry H. Wallace in 1936, the company grew up to one of today's major suppliers of white and brown layers. At the occasion of their anniversary, Hy-Line introduced a new corporate look at IPE

Leg meat is tasteful and therefore becoming more popular. In order to obtain this meat, Meyn developed the Whole Leg Deboner (WLD). This machine processes left and right anatomical legs with or without skin at a capacity of 3,000 legs per hour. It produces whole leg fillet with the high quality required by export markets.

A new exhibitor at IPE was De Anda from Mexico. This company supplies housing systems, particularly cages. They have been active in Mexico for decades already, but are also making a step into the export market now. They are primarily focusing on tropical and subtropical countries in Latin America, but also see chances in India because of similar climatic conditions.

A new product of Centurion Poultry is the Sagitta brown broiler line of their PureLine Genetics division. This is a dual purpose strain that is aimed at producing a high number of hatching eggs, high hatchability and good growing, feed efficient offspring with good livability.

Axtra XAP is a new enzyme from Danisco that enhances the efficacy of DDGS inclusion in broiler diets by 25%. In order to make clear that this speeds up productivity, a Formula 1 car was on display at their IPE stand

The Chore-Tronics 3 whole house controller of Chore-Time features an easy to navigate touch screen and colour display with instant graphing. It has a "touch and go" navigation and includes control for ceiling inlets, up to 16 controlling sensors, improved graphing capabilities and an external USB port for data collection and transfer

Using the symbol of a golden egg, Kemin is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. At their 5th annual Poultry Summit at IPE, speakers commented on the new FDA feed safety Bill. FDA wants to have audited all high risk feed facilities within five years and all low risk facilities within seven years. Speakers also discussed the risk of salmonella and high protein rations, especially when the seed coat is broken.
