With its Super Pollo brand, Agrosuper dominates the poultry meat market in Chile. In 2006, their San Vicente processing plant completely burnt down. Truly this was a disaster for the company. But it offered them the chance to completely redesign their facility as well. The result is a state of the art plant, which is running again since 2007. Ad Bal and María de los Angeles of World Poultry and Avicultura Profesional Magazine, recently toured Chile and paid a visit to the San Vicente facility. Male and female broiler birds are grown separately, enabling Super Pollo to process uniform birds. As a result, they are processed in two different lines, enabling the company to slaughter them for different purposes
The biggest part of the processing line was supplied by Stork
Despite a high level of automation, also a lot of manual labour is needed, both for handling as well as for visual quality inspection
Birds are washed thoroughly on an extensive cleaning line
The San Vicente plant has a capacity of 350,000 birds per day
Very strong hygiene standards are needed to comply with ISO 9.001, ISO 14.001, and HACCP certifications
Production goes on 24 hours a day with two shifts of 8 hours and 4 hours of
cleaning time in between every shift
Almost all parts of the birds, including gizzards and paws are used for consumption. Most of this is exported like paws to China
Deep frozen fillets are prepared for packaging
End products are sold under the Super Pollo brand name, both for the domestic as well as for the export markets
The chicken burger is a convenience type of product from Agrosuper
