The Advancia seminar preceded the 2010 Joint Annual Meeting (2010 JAM) of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA), the Poultry Science Association (PSA), the Association Mexicana de Produccion Animal (AMPA), the Canadian Society of Animal Science (CSAS) and the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS).
Among the 22 excellent applications received, Adisseo with the help of an international scientific committee composed by Prof L. Adeola (Purdue Univ, USA), Prof Y. Guo (College of Animal Science, Beijing, China), Prof H Rostagno (Univ Viçosa, Brazil) and Dr S. Tesseraud (INRA, France) selected 5 projects to be supported for the next 2 years:
• Professor Z. Fang at the Sichuan Agriculture University, China, who will investigate the benefits of methionine on development of immune system and gut health in piglets.
• E. Conde-Aguilera at Granada University, Spain, and Dr. J. van Milgen at INRA, France, will determine the relationship between methionine supply and muscle quality in both broilers and pigs.
• Professor E. Costa, University Paraiba, Brazil, will develop a better knowledge of the methionine-cysteine supply in the development of the reproduction capacity in pullets and layers.
• Professor M. Persia at Iowa State University will address the relationship between methionine supply and acute or chronic heat stress in broilers.
• Professor W. Dozier, Auburn University, will help to revise the sulphur amino acid requirements for broilers in the early growing phase as well as in the late finishing phase.
Adisseo is proud to support the scientific community by encouraging methionine research and development. More than $300,000 has been allocated to the 3rd Rhodimet Research Grants.
Proposals concerned not only refining sulphur amino acid requirements, but also examined the benefits of methionine on animal metabolism for better gut health to stimulation of the immune system to support in stressful conditions such as heat stress.
Laureates were presented at the Advancia meeting where scientists presented the progress made through previous Rhodimet Research Grants.
