Aus: Lupin to reduce poultry feed costs

//02 Jul 2009
With the aim of finding a replacement for expensive imported soy meal used in poultry feed, a Western Australian scientist believes he has discovered a way to significantly reduce the cost of poultry feed, reports ABC Rural.

Doctor Ahmed Ali, who has been busy with his search for the past 14 years, his research shows a cheaper protein energy alternative is Australian grown lupins, but you have to add two specific enzymes to the feed.

"We are excited because both enzymes improved the digestibility of lupins and reduce wet dropping and improve the growth performance," he says, adding that this means that feed conversion efficiency of the feed to the meat or feed to the egg is improved.

Dear sir,

It is quite logical to think of lupin as one of the cheapest sources of protein for monogastrics especially for the poultry. I was rather interseted to pursue a research programme based on producing eggs low in cholesterol using lupin as layer feed. Unfortunately, there is no way that I can do without the supply of L.angustifolius. As such, is there any way that I'll have sufficient supply of L.angustifolius from Australia. Would anybody so kindly respond? There is a great promise of sweet lupin and as well as there should be good market of eggs containing low in cholesterol. Lookin forward to have your kind reply. Regards.

Yours sincerely,
