Tests to date indicate that the strain of AI in this case is low pathogenic. Further testing is underway to confirm pathogenicity and to determine the precise subtype and strain of the virus.
All birds on the infected premises have been humanely euthanized and disposed of, after which all birds were removed. The CFIA will oversee the cleaning and disinfection of the barns, vehicles, equipment and tools to eliminate any infectious material that may remain.
In order to limit any potential virus spread, the CFIA has applied restrictions on the movement of poultry and poultry products within three kilometres of the infected premises.
