Canadian poultry and egg farmers applaud govt. support

//16 Jun 2011
Canadian dairy, poultry and egg farmers applaud the Federal Government’s continued support for supply management, which was clearly reinforced in the Speech from the Throne on June 3rd.

In the Speech, which sets out the broad goals and directions of the Government in the 41st Parliament, the Government commits that, “In all international forums and bilateral negotiations, our Government will continue to stand up for Canadian farmers and industries by defending supply management.”

This follows a similar pledge by the Conservative Party of Canada in the recent federal election campaign.

“Prime Minister Stephen Harper said during the election that a re-elected Conservative government would continue to resolutely defend the supply-management system,” said David Fuller, Chair of Chicken Farmers of Canada. “We applaud the Government for following through on their commitment in the Speech from the Throne.”

“Canadian dairy, poultry and egg farmers greatly appreciate the Government’s strong and ongoing support for supply management, particularly in the context of international trade negotiations,” said Jack Greydanus, Chair of the Canadian Hatching Egg Producers.

Turkey Farmers of Canada Chair, Mark Davies, added "With this clear mandate and the significant recognition in the Speech from the Throne, our producers can continue to be reassured that the Government will deliver on its commitments.”
