New certificates for poultry imports to Russia will be issued free of charge

//02 May 2006
"We are a state establishment, and for this reason we are not going to charge any payment for the issuance of permits and other documents, be they veterinary to phytosanitary certificates," the chief of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control (Rosselkhoznadzor), Sergei Dankvert, told ITAR-TASS news agency.

The termination of permits for imports of products of poultry breeding "was connected with numerous cases of incompliance with Russian veterinary legislation and attempts to import products on false permits", Dankvert explained. At the same time, "new permits will be issued under a simplified scheme".

To get a certificate, "importers will need to submit only a copy of a previous request on the basis of which the permit for product import was issued".

However, "checks of declared and really coming quantities of imported meat are planned for individual organisations", Dankvert added.

He said that his service would "take maximum efforts for re-registration of permits within two weeks".

Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev said last week that Rosselkhoznadzor would issue new certificates for poultry imports quickly.

"As false permits have appeared in circulation in Russia, the decision has been made to issue new, more protected and rigidly controlled permits, Gordeyev said.

"In order not to agitate and not to make operators nervous, we have agreed that this replacement will go in a simplified form and in a maximally short time, tentatively within two weeks," he stressed.
