VION: 250 new jobs in Scottish poultry industry

//10 Sep 2010
Vion is expanding its Scottish operations considerably creating another 250 jobs and securing a further 234 positions within the company.

The expansion of operations in Coupar Angus, where Vion built a new packing line, created 150 new jobs, allowing the company to assert the Scottish origins of its chicken with the birds hatched, reared and processed in Scotland. In Cambuslang a further 100 jobs have been created at an "added value" plant allowing the site to grow by 25% in 2010.

As well as the new positions, 234 jobs at the same site have been safeguarded with the help of a Scottish Enterprise Regional Selective Assistance grant of £650,000. "This is very positive news and just reward for the tremendous efforts of the teams at Cambuslang and Coupar Angus," said Andrew Fisher, VION Poultry's Regional Director for Scotland and the Southern Region.

"We're heartened by the fact that RSA funding has been a key factor in making all of this happen. This shows the real impact RSA can have in helping indigenous and foreign companies to invest in Scotland," added Lena Wilson, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, commended the government support for the expansion.
