World-class hatchery in Pakistan
// 11 May 2007
One of the worlds largest and the most modern
grandparent hatcheries is now operational in Pakistan.
Bangladesh's first grandparent poultry farm will play a major role in reducing import
dependence on broiler-breeder parent stocks by 20%.
Aqua Breeders Ltd, the new GP farm, set up at Tentulia will go into
production of broiler-breeder parents, and will help the Pakistan poultry
industry to bridge the gap between supply and demand. It would not only
contribute towards the supply of chicken meat at low prices, but also generate
employment and help governmental poverty alleviation programmes.
LCCI (Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry) president Shahid Hassan
Sheikh said that commercial poultry started in Pakistan in the early sixties,
and has developed at the rate of 15 – 20% annually.
The poultry industry is the second largest sector of Pakistan. There are
about 28,000 poultry farms in the country. This new farm will save about US$2.17
million (€1.6 million) in foreign exchange by reducing absolute dependence on
import of broiler-breeder chicken for the country's burgeoning poultry
sector.
